Sales of alternative vehicles in 2019

The fiscal year 2019 closes with the sale of a total of 162,417 units of alternative energy vehicles, an increase in the year as a whole of 40.7%, according to data published by Anfac.

Sales of alternative energy vehicles accounted for 12% of total vehicle sales in 2019. Gasoline models 60.1% of registrations and diesel models 27.9% of the total.

Of the total number of alternative energy vehicles sold, 151,351 units corresponded to passenger cars, an increase of 39.6%.

It is important to highlight the excellent behavior of the demand in this type of vehicles considering that vehicle registrations in Spain during 2019 decreased.

If we break down by categories, the absolute dominators within the alternative vehicles are the non-plug-in hybrids that close the year with 109,755 units sold. An increase of 44.2%, consolidating itself as the preferred option for buyers among all the alternative energy vehicles.

The registrations of electric vehicles in the accumulated of the year amounted to 12,293 units. This represents an increase of 50% compared to the year 2018.

The sale of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 7,458 units in 2019, an increase of 31%.

Gas vehicles grew 30%, to 32,910 units.
