On October 27, Daimler Trucks and Alphabet (Google), through their company Waymo, presented a global strategic agreement to develop a project for autonomous trucks in the US market.

This agreement will initially implement standalone SAE L4 technology. This results in the combination of Waymo company’s automated driving technology in a special version of Daimler’s Freightliner Cascadia truck model.

So Daimler will supply the trucks to install the devices that will enable autonomous driving, while Waymo will incorporate technology that has been tested on more than 20 million miles of public roads in 25 cities in the US, and in more than 24 billion kilometers in simulator.

Both Waymo and Daimler Trucks are united by the goal of improving road safety and efficiency in truck fleets.

The Freightliner Cascadia autonomous truck, equipped with Waymo Driver, is expected to be available to first US customers in the coming years. To later start expanding to other markets. As well as taking this experience to other brands of the German group.

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with more than ten years of experience whose mission is to get people and things to their destination safely and easily.

Since its inception, as Google’s Autonomous Vehicle Project in 2009, it has focused on creating the world’s most experienced driver to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost in traffic accidents

Daimler Trucks North America is the US subsidiary of Daimler Trucks Parent company of the Freightliner brand and the US market leader in the manufacture of commercial vehicles.
