According to the “IV Report on Employment and Talent Trends in Logistics and Transportation 2019, carried out by the Logistics Forum in collaboration with other entities, the sector continues to grow, despite threats such as Brexit and new economic forecasts, and remains one of the engines of both national economic development, already means 8% of GDP, as European.

One of the fundamental variables that explains the excellent moment of the sector is the continuous rise of electronic commerce, which we have already referred to in other publications, with a turnover of close to 38,000 million euros in Spain.

The report also shows that the sector faces several challenges, including its digital transformation.

66% of the companies in the sector are immersed in a process of digital transformation, while 27% have not yet started this process, and only 11% do not plan to start it.

The digitalization and implementation of new technologies that improve processes has become a key factor for the development of the sector.

The lack of talent remains one of the greatest difficulties in dealing with digital transformation, since 50% of companies do not have digital positions covered because they cannot find employees with the required profile.

In this 2019 we have just finished, the five most demanded profiles were: Ecommerce manager, commercial, sales and marketing managers, project engineers and logistics methods, warehouse operators and drivers.

If we focus on the most demanded digital profiles, they were: logistics software engineers, digital transformation managers, app developers, web programmers, systems architects and Big Data technicians for the supply chain.

The most difficult profiles to cover are Blockchain specialists, logistics software engineers and systems architects.

It also shows that companies are strongly committed to the professionalization of the sector, almost 50% opt for profiles with a degree in Vocational Training, followed by University Graduates.

But it seems increasingly important, in order to successfully face the digital transformation that companies will have to invest in training and development. Currently, two out of every three companies already contemplate the digital field in their training plans, both in awareness programs and basic digital skills, as well as in advanced digital skills.
